Hospital services in both Cavan and Monaghan were experiencing “unprecedented pressures” because of the number of Covid- 19 and winter flu cases they were having to deal with, the HSE has stated. The sudden death of Monsignor Richard Mohan which occurred at the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh on Sunday last January 1 has evoked deep sadness throughout Co Monaghan. Fr Dick, as he was popularly known, served as Parish Priest in Clones from 2013 to 2020, having previously been Prior of the pilgrimage island of Lough Derg for 23 years. Little Ted McQuaid, the beneficiary of this year’s Jolly Joggers walk and run organised by Glaslough Harriers AFC, decided to lead by example at the New Year’s Day event. There were six road fatalities recorded in Co Monaghan in 2022, an increase of one on the 2021 figure, a report issued by the Road Safety Authority noted this week. The RSA expressed concern that a 13% rise in road deaths nationwide had been recorded in the year just past. The report for Quarter 4 2022, in association with Davy, shows that the median or middle asking price for a property in the county is now €177,500.
