MONAGHAN MINOR INJURY UNIT TO DELIVER SEVEN-DAY SERVICE FROM MARCH
Hospital is to operate a seven-day service from March of this year, the HSE has confirmed. There has been a broad political welcome for the news, which was conveyed to local elected representatives at a briefing held through the HSE’s Regional Health Forum for Dublin and the North East on Friday last. But calls were made at Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council for services at the hospital to be further extended in light of the current overcrowding situation at Cavan General Hospital and other larger hospitals throughout the country.
A motion of urgent business tabled by the Sinn Féin members sought increased stepdown and rehabilitation bed allocation for Monaghan Hospital and an expansion of its clinic service (see separate story inside). The MIU hours were extended in November to 8 pm from Monday to Friday. It is understood that the commencement of the seven-day service is contingent on staffing issues being resolved but the HSE expects the necessary staff arrangements to be in place by March.
