SHOCK AND SADNESS AT PASSING OF FORMER CLONES PP AND LOUGH DERG PRIOR
The sudden death of Monsignor Richard Mohan which occurred at the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh on Sunday last January 1 has evoked deep sadness throughout Co Monaghan. Fr Dick, as he was popularly known, served as Parish Priest in Clones from 2013 to 2020, having previously been Prior of the pilgrimage island of Lough Derg for 23 years. He also served on the staff of St Macartan’s College and was a priest in the Monaghan and Rackwallace Parish for a time. In a tribute following his passing, the Bishop of Clogher Larry Duffy said that Monsignor Mohan’s death had come as a great shock.
“Throughout his priestly ministry, he gave great service to people of all ages and in various places,” Bishop Duffy stated. “He was a very competent catechist who is remembered with great fondness by the many people with whom he came in contact through his 12 years working in our primary schools as Diocesan Religious Advisor. “His time at Lough Derg was a period of development and change, and being a man of vision and openness to the Lord, he managed that well. Above all, Fr Dick was a priest whose priesthood was rooted in walking with Christ every day.
“He fulfilled that ministry of Christ’s love right up to the final hours of his life. May the Lord now grant him eternal peace in the fullness of God’s Kingdom.“ Monsignor Mohan, of 34 Lacky Road, Drumswords, Roslea, Co Fermanagh, is survived by his brother Pat, sisters Mary and Anna, brother-in-law Tom, sister-in-law Bernie, close friend Geraldine and wider family circle.
