LOCAL HOSPITAL SERVICES FACING “UNPRECEDENTED PRESSURES” SAYS HSE
Hospital services in both Cavan and Monaghan were experiencing “unprecedented pressures” because of the number of Covid- 19 and winter flu cases they were having to deal with, the HSE has stated. What was described as “multiple outbreaks” of Covid and flu cases presenting at hospital departments in both counties were cited in a renewed call by Cavan General Hospital this week for the public to refrain from attending its emergency department unless absolutely necessary.
“Cavan and Monaghan Hospitals are now in full escalation,” stated Director of Operations Laura Waters. “As we enter this New Year our Emergency Department continues to experience unprecedented numbers of presentations and we urge people to utilise their GP if more appropriate. “There are continued multiple outbreaks of both Covid and flu in Cavan and Monaghan Hospitals resulting in our Hospital being in full escalation.
“Visiting is now restricted hospital-wide and at the discretion of the nurse manager. We are asking the public to assist us as we move through this challenging time. If patients have medical concerns that are not an emergency, they should contact their GP or local pharmacy before attending the emergency department.” A total of 19 patients were reported as awaiting…
