Packie Jones of Tonaneave, Magheracloone, who passed away on Wednesday last January 25, was a former member of Monaghan Co Council renowned for his advocacy on behalf of his community and for representing the interests of the farming sector forthrightly and fearlessly. Many tributes have been paid across the South Monaghan and wider community to Mr Jones following his passing in his 89th year at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. By Veronica Corr Yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon, Monaghan County Council and Gyproc, on foot of a request from this newspaper, both issued statements following the discovery of a hole on private land by a Drumgossatt landowner. The landowner is understood to have contacted the relevant authorities. The road was closed after the subsidence event in September 2018 and local residents expressed concerns that it could be happening again. The village of Knockatallon in Co Monaghan and the town of Cootehill in Co Cavan were honoured at the prestigious Pride of Place community awards held on Saturday evening in Dublin. SUDDEN PASSING OF ROCKCORRY TEENAGER
The community of Rockcorry and further afield were deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Odhrán Connolly, Carsan, Dartry, Rockcorry on January 21st 2023. He will be laid to rest at 12 noon today, Thursday at the Holy Trinity Church, Dartry, before burial takes place in Corrinshigo Cemetery, Drum. Odhrán will be sadly missed by his parents Paddy and Lisa, brothers Oisín, Tiarnach, Pádraig and sister Aoibhínn, grandparents Brendan and Geraldine Sheridan, and Ollie and Bridie Connolly, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.
