HOLE FOUND ON PRIVATE LAND AT DRUMGOSSATT NOT MINING-RELATED GYPROC SITE INVESTIGATION CONFIRMS, AS COUNCIL LIFT TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF LP4900

Yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon, Monaghan County Council and Gyproc, on foot of a request from this newspaper, both issued statements following the discovery of a hole on private land by a Drumgossatt landowner. The landowner is understood to have contacted the relevant authorities. The road was closed after the subsidence event in September 2018 and local residents expressed concerns that it could be happening again. However, following an inspection, it is understood that the hole is not related to mining activity in the area.

Monaghan County Council are satisfied with this assessment given by Gyproc and yesterday afternoon it was decided that the road would re-open. Monaghan County Council’s statement issued at lunchtime on Wednesday read: “Yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) at 4:30pm, Monaghan County Council received notification from Gyproc/Saint-Gobain that they had been alerted to the development of a relatively small-sized surface opening on lands immediately adjacent…
