Gardaí are seeking the public’s assistance to help trace a missing Monaghan Townsman. 45-year-old Denis Crumlish has not been seen since Sunday April 2 last when he left his home on the outskirts of the town. Mr Crumlish is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, of broad build and with brown hair. It is not known what clothing he was wearing at the time he went missing. Monaghan Co Council has been allocated €750,000 in 2023 to further develop a pilot initiative using reclaimed asphalt which could become a national template for the repair of roads. The Gardaí have launched an information appeal following a fatal road traffic accident in the Clones area on Saturday evening last, April 8. A female pedestrian in her 70s was struck by a vehicle at around 10.45 pm on the Newbliss Road at Clonavilla. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Gardaí in Monaghan have appealed for any witnesses to the accident to come forward. Funding of €68,000 under the 2023 Arts Partnership Grant to six applicants from across the county’s cultural and festival sphere was approved at the April meeting of Monaghan Co Council. The Garage Theatre in Monaghan Town and the Íontas Theatre in Castleblayney will each receive €22,000. €11,000 goes to Clones Film Festival, and there is €6,000 for Féile Patrick Byrne, €4,000 for Castleblayney Drama Festival and €3,000 for Muckno Mania. Important refurbishment and conservation work planned for St Macartan’s Cathedral in Monaghan Town received funding of €100,000 this week. The Government’s Historic Structures Fund will assist in the works, which will entail work to the spire, pinnacles tower and south transept of the cathedral, with internal high-level plaster repairs.
