EirGrid’s North-South electricity interconnector project cannot be implemented using undergrounded technology because the method would not be as reliable and stable as required, a report published this week stated. The independent expert review requested by Minister for Energy Eamon Ryan TD has backed a previous International Expert Commission report finding that the interconnector should be constructed using above-ground technology or overhead pylons. A man in his 50s died in a two-vehicle road traffic collision which occurred on the N12 at Knockaconny outside Monaghan Town on Saturday morning last, March 11. The man who received fatal injuries was the sole occupant of one of the vehicles involved in the incident. His body was removed from the scene for post mortem examination.
