A man in his 50s died in a two-vehicle road traffic collision which occurred on the N12 at Knockaconny outside Monaghan Town on Saturday morning last, March 11. The man who received fatal injuries was the sole occupant of one of the vehicles involved in the incident. His body was removed from the scene for post mortem examination. Two occupants of the second car were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and Cavan General Hospital for treatment to injuries which were described as not life-threatening. Gardaí and emergency services attended at the scene of the accident, which occurred around 11.15 am. The road was closed for a time and diversions put in place to facilitate an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators. The Gardaí have asked any witnesses to the accident, and anyone who might have relevant video footage including dash-cam footage, to get in touch with Monaghan Garda Station at 047 77200, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
