Monaghan is amongst 12 researchers awarded a total of €11.8 million from the Irish Research Council for worldclass frontier research. Lorraine O’Driscoll from Smithborough, Co Monaghan, a Professor in Pharmacology at Trinity College Dublin, has received funding for her research into extracellular vesicles in cancer. The EVIC project will examine extracellular vesicles (EVs) – tiny particles that are released from cancer cells into the bloodstream. Many people gathered in Castleblayney on Saturday last as part of the ongoing campagin for the restoration of the town’s Market House. Originally built c.1790 with signficant additions made c.1856, the Market House remains a major focal point of Castleblayney’s historic town centre.
