TWO men were arrested in Co,. Monaghan after a mini -bus was stolen at Dublin airport with three passengers on board. The vehicle was driven to the M1 shortly before 1am yesterday (Wed) morning. The passengers were allowed to leave the bus unharmed a short time later near Julianstown. The bus continued up the M1, where it is believed it rammed a Garda patrol car before it crossed the border. A former British soldier is to stand trial accused of manslaughter over the killing of Aidan McAnespie at a border checkpoint in Aughnacloy, Co. Tyrone, in February 1988. 23 year-old Mr McAnespie, who worked at the time at Monaghan Poultry Products, had been walking past the army sangar (watchtower) on his way to a GAA match at Aghaloo O’Neills GFC when he was hit by one of three bullets fired from a heavy machine gun.
