FUEL RACKETEERS STRIKE AGAIN
By PATSY McARDLE CROSS-BORDER fuel racketeers made a further environmental strike near the South Armagh Border in Mid-Monaghan early on Tuesday when they dumped more than 1,000 litres of diesel sludge in two containers on roads at Annyalla and Creighanroe, a few miles from Castleblaynery. Gardai sealed off both routes while Monaghan county council emergency services moved in to clear the area and prevent the toxic sludge from seeping into waterways or adjacent roadside farmlands. Monaghan Co Council members were told on Tuesday that the authority is facing a legal claim for €2.8 million under the Malicious Injuries Act arising from the fire which damaged the Hope Castle property at Lough Muckno in Castleblayney recently. A 39-YEARS-OLD Castleblayney man has been sent for trial to Dundalk Circuit Court on January 10th next charged with the alleged manslaughter of a 25-years-old fisherman in the Co. Louth seaside village of Clogherhead .
