Presidential election candidate Dana Rosemary Scallon visited Monaghan last Monday on her nationwide canvass for votes in advance of polling on Thursday October 27th.
Arriving directly from RTE Studios in Dublin, where she was a guest on the ‘Today with Pat Kenny’ , she was in an upbeat mood as she declared that she felt she was “back on home soil”, having represented the people of Co Monaghan as part of the Ireland West Constituency in the European Parliament from 1999 to 2004.
Her first stop was at the Northern Sound Radio studio in Coolshannagh, where she had a live interview with Kathy McKenna on the News at 1 Programme.
She spoke of her passion for upholding and defending the Irish Constitution, stating that the presidential campaign should be about the policies and the leadership skills of the candidates rather than the national media obsession with aspects of their personal lives.
She hoped that many people would see past the “media circus and side shows”, and give their attention to where each candidate stood on real issues such as getting out of our economic difficulties, defending our national sovereignty, questioning further EU integration and considering the values that they wanted the President to uphold.
