Michael Fisher Carrickmacross was stunned by the unexpected announcement a week ago that the Bose factory is to close in April with the loss of 140 jobs. Criticism of the expenditure made on the ‘flying pig’ art installation situated along the Castleblayney by-pass in Co Monaghan was voiced by Fine Gael councillor Hugh McElvaney at Monday’s resumed Budget Meeting of Monaghan Co Council in Carrickmacross. By Cianna McNally Public concern is growing at the continuing incidence of “creeper burglary car thefts,” as another spate of such robberies took place over the last week. In what appears to be a highly organised criminal enterprise, six relatively high value vehicles were taken from outside homes in the Clontibret, Castleblayney and Carrickmacross areas between last Friday and yesterday, Wednesday morning. The Monaghan Association in Dublin will unveil a new plaque in memory of Inniskeen poet Patrick Kavanagh in Dublin on Saturday 1st November, 2014 at 3pm. The plaque will be unveiled at 51, Upper Drumcondra Road, Dublin 9, which was Patrick Kavanagh’s first Dublin address when he went there in 1939. The unveiling will be performed by the writer Brendan Lynch who is one of the remaining few who knew Kavanagh during his time in Dublin. Chairman of the Monaghan Association, Dublin, Peter J. FURTHER poignant tributes were paid to the late Mr. Martin Crilly, the well known Carrickmacross solicitor who died earlier this month, and an expression of sympathy was extended to his family and friends, at the commencement of the Circuit Court in Carrickmacross on Tuesday. Carrickmacross boxers had a good weekend at the Dublin October Festival of Boxing event at the Green Isle Hotel on the Naas Road. Glen Clarke got the weekend off to a positive start with his win over his Crumlin BC opponent. SOUTH Monaghan experienced a second road tragedy within a fortnight yesterday (Wed) when a young man was fatally injured in a two-vehicle collision outside Carrickmacross. The crash occurred at Drummond Otra, on the Dundalk side of the town. The Northern Ireland driver of one of the cars was fatally injured and two others who were in a second vehicle, were taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
