According to a study carried out by Professor Kevin Malone entitled Suicide in Ireland 2003-2008, on average, every 18 days a child under 18 in Ireland dies by suicide. To mark the beginning of International Suicide Prevention Week, which runs from the 8th – 14th September 2013, SOSAD Carrickmacross are organising a 5KM walk to raise funds and create awareness of the issue of suicide prevention in our community. It is understood that submissions stating the case against the development were received from O’Gorman’s SuperValu and Tesco (Far Away Properties). By Veronica Corr Monday afternoon’s statutory monthly meeting of Carrickmacross Town Council was adjourned on the proposal of Mayor Matt Carthy as a mark of respect to the late Gerry Maggs, who served as Mayor of Carrickmacross from 1989-1990. Mayor Carthy stated that former councillor Gerry Maggs had lost his battle with cancer the previous night.
