A MAJOR BOOST FOR TOURISM IN CARRICK

CARRICKMACROSS could be in for a huge boost in tourism—if a special facility is provided in the South Monaghan town for the safe overnight parking of camper vans!

Such a facility for people traveling between the North and Dublin or the South and West of the country via ‘Kavanagh Country’ would prove very welcome for road trippers, according to a leading local authority representative.

The town mayor of Carrickmacross, Cllr. Matt Carthy, has contended that the provision of such a facility would be a huge asset for improving tourism in the area.

Mayor Carthy said during the week he was extremely pleased that the members of Carrickmacross Town Council had agreed with his proposal that officials be asked to identify a site for such a facility and that they aim to have it in place in time for next summer.

He said that the idea for his proposal arose from a discussion at a previous meeting of the Carrickmacross-Carhaix Twinning Committee.
