According to a study carried out by Professor Kevin Malone entitled Suicide in Ireland 2003-2008, on average, every 18 days a child under 18 in Ireland dies by suicide.

 To mark the beginning of International Suicide Prevention Week, which runs from the 8th – 14th September 2013, SOSAD Carrickmacross are organising a 5KM walk to raise funds and create awareness of the issue of suicide prevention in our community.

 The walk will begin at the courthouse on Main Street at 6.15am on Sunday, 8th September 2013, and return to the same location.

 It is hoped the walk and the symbolic journey from darkness into the light will help to create awareness that help and hope is available to all, strengthening our communities in the fight against suicide.

 The walk is open to all and there is no fee for taking part, participants are just asked to make a donation that they can afford.
