SOUTH Monaghan experienced a second road tragedy within a fortnight yesterday (Wed) when a young man was fatally injured in a two-vehicle collision outside Carrickmacross.

The crash occurred at Drummond Otra, on the Dundalk side of the town.

The Northern Ireland driver of one of the cars was fatally injured and two others who were in a second vehicle, were taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Gardai withheld the name of the fatally injured victim, who was in his mid-twenties and understood to be from Co. Tyrone, until all his relatives were informed.

Diversions were in operation, pending a forensic examination of the crash scene.

Meanwhile, gardai appealed for any witnesses to the collision to come forward or contact them at Carrickmacross Garda Station.

The accident happened after 7 a.m. yesterday morning.
