The introduction of free Saturday parking in Monaghan Town would result in a loss of revenue of €94,000 over the course of a 12-month period, Town Manager Paul Clifford stated on Tuesday evening. Mr Clifford was commenting at the March meeting of Monaghan Town Council after Sinn Féin’s Sean Conlon proposed that the Council’s planning sub-committee meet to consider reducing the pay parking charges in the town or introducing free Saturday parking for a trial period of three-six months. Colr Conlon expressed concern about how the income from ...

ULSTER’S STRENGTH-IN-DEPTH SHOWCASED BY LEAGUE RESULTS

It’s been said that gaels in Ulster are more partisan than passionate about their football and hurling. For all that, in the eyes of even the most insular county supporter ensconced in this neck of the woods, the current National Football League tables must make for pleasant reading overall. After last weekend’s games, Ulster teams occupy two of the top three places in division one; man the top three berths in division two and sit in second and third spot in division three. Only lowly Antrim, third bottom in division four, ...

TREANOR FURIOUS AS FAMILY ENDURES THREE-HOUR WAIT FOR AMBULANCE ARRIVAL

A case in which a family reportedly had to endure a three-hour wait for the arrival of an ambulance to deal with a medical crisis was cited by Independent councillor Seamus Treanor during a powerful call at Monday night’s meeting of Monaghan Town Council for major improvements in the emergency medical service available to the people of the local area. Fianna Fáil councillor Robbie Gallagher stated that if such improvements weren’t made, “living in Monaghan is going to have to carry a health risk going forward.” Members gave ...
