LOCAL FG DEPUTIES QUERY TAOISEACH IN ADVANCE OF ‘EXPERTS PANEL’ STORM

CAVAN/MONAGHAN Fine Gael Dail deputies Heather Humphreys and Sean Conlan have raised the ongoing EirGrid pylons controversy with An Taoiseach this week, when it was also announced that an expert panel will oversee reports on the best underground route options to compare them with the Grid Link and Grid West high voltage power-lines.

Deputy Humphreys tabled a question to An Taoiseach last Thursday that reflected the swelter of opposition to overhead power-lines and pylons across farmlands in the this region, while Deputy Conlon put down a parliamentary question asking that the North South Interconnector be added to the list of projects to be assessed.

Deputy Conlan has stated that, following another meeting with the Taoiseach on Tuesday, he was assured that the new commission will also be asked to review the reports carried out on the North South Interconnector project to date, and will have the power to commission its own work if there is any perceived deficiency in these studies.
