GARDA ALERT OVER ATM ‘SKIMMING’ THREATS

GARDAI are advising ATM users to be on the alert for anything suspicious observed at ATM cash dispensing machines throughout Co. Monaghan in the wake of the reported discovery last week of a “skimming device” at one ATM machine in Monaghan town. The illicit device was found at an ATM unit at a major store in the town. It was not immediately clear yet if any cards had been skimmed but gardai were asking anyone who used the ATM in the vicinity of Dunnes’ Stores to keep an eye on their accounts. ...

Fears that local authorities could face further downgrading and loss of services and responsibilities following on from the recent local government reforms that saw the abolition of Town Councils have been voiced by Cathaoirleach of Monaghan Co Council Pádraig McNally. Serious concern about the previous use by a juvenile offender before Monaghan District Court of the drug “Clockwork Orange” was expressed by Judge Sean MacBride. “I hope you now realise what is important in life,” Judge MacBride told the young male, who was the subject of a Probation Report that showed he was making progress in coping with his drug problems. “Your health and mental well-being are so important – don’t mess it up with drugs which only cause pain, suffering, heartache and hardship.” The Judge remanded the juvenile to appear before him ...
