LATLORCAN LADY CELEBRATES 100TH BIRTHDAY

Congratulations to Mrs. Olive Chambers, Latlorcan, Monaghan who celebrated her 100th birthday in Drumbear Lodge Nursing Home on Wednesday, 19th November.  Mrs. Dympna McMahon, Nurse Manager read a letter of congratulations from President Michael D. Higgins. Rev. DM Patterson, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, paid a glowing tribute to Olive and Mr. Tom Russell led ‘Happy Birthday’ on his bagpipes.  Mrs. Chambers spent all of her working life in the drapery business serving her time in The Diamond Drapery, now Boyle’s.  She worked for 26 years in the old firm of Harpers, now the Ulster Bank, and later in Murnane’s in Park Street until aged 77.  Blessed with a truly remarkable memory and a lifelong capacity for making friends, she is held in great esteem and affection by all.  A huge gathering of relatives and friends applauded enthusiastically as she cut her birthday cake at the lavish reception hosted by her nieces and the catering staff of Drumbear Lodge.
