It was announced on Saturday morning last that Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Liam MacDaid as Bishop of Clogher due to ill health. Ordained in July 2010 as successor to Joseph Duffy, Bishop MacDaid has been suffering from Parkinson’s disease. In a pastoral letter read at Masses in the diocese on Sunday, the Bishop said he had found his condition becoming increasingly problematic and beginning to interfere with his capacity to fulfil his responsibilities.
