Tuesday 26th October was the 250th anniversary of the birth of General Don Juan MacKenna who together with Bernardo O’Higgins is acclaimed as the co-liberator of Chile. To mark the occasion a wreath bearing the national colours of Ireland and Chile, was laid at his birthplace, Willville House Monaghan, by the Clan McKenna Chieftain, Peter McKenna, Swann’s Cross. The Gardaí and the HSE have been backed by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland in issuing an alert to Co Monaghan parents about jelly sweets containing cannabis which are in circulation in the run-up to Hallowe’en. Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly TD on Friday last announced the development of a Specialist Palliative Care Inpatient Hospice that will deliver an integrated 16-bed Inpatient hospice and community care service on the St. Christopher’s site in Cavan. Visiting Cavan, Minister Donnelly said the new development would the provision of 16 Level 3* inpatient palliative care beds and co-located community services.
