Monaghan Co Council was cited this week as being a significant contributor to the €1.8 billion in energy use savings achieved by the Irish public sector since 2009. The annual report on Public Sector Energy Efficiency Performance showed that public bodies and Government Departments were 34% more energy efficient now than in 2009, exceeding the target set for 2020 by 33%. Three Co Monaghan brothers have been remanded in custody for sentencing in the Special Criminal Court for their roles in a series of ATM robberies in the Border region over a two-year period. Stephen Duffy, 35, from Tullynahinera, Castleblayney and his two younger brothers, 31-year-old Gerard and 27-year-old Ciaran, both from Greagh, Loughnamore, will receive their sentences from the three-judge court on March 4 next.
