€200,000 IN FUNDING FOR ROSSMORE MAUSOLEUM

A total of €200,000 in funding for works to the Rossmore Mausoleum in Rossmore Park, Monaghan was announced this week under the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage’s Historic Structures Fund. Grants of €100,000 in each of the years 2022 and 2023 have been assigned for repairs to the mausoleum’s terracotta-tiled roof, door, step, floor tiles and ironwork, while repointing of walls and interior brickwork will also take place. SUSPECTED CANNABIS GROWHOUSE DISCOVERED IN MONAGHAN TOWN

A man in his 20s has been arrested and charged following the discovery of a suspected cannabis growhouse in Monaghan Town on Sunday last. The discovery was made by Gardaí during a search of property in the town. A growing facility was found constructed within the building containing a large quantity of suspected cannabis plants. Garda investigations are continuing. The man arrested is due to appear in court.

LORRY OVERTURNS AT COOLSHANNAGH ROUNDABOUT

Emergency services dealt with an incident on the Coolshannagh roundabout in Monaghan Town on Tuesday when a transport lorry carrying a consignment of pigs overturned. The single-vehicle incident occurred just before 9 am and resulted in some traffic disruption in the area. The road was closed for a number of hours and diversions were in place to facilitate the removal of the vehicle. The driver was safely removed from the lorry by Monaghan Fire and Civil Protection personnel.
