Co Monaghan’s population has risen by 5.6% over the last six years, preliminary results from Census 2022 have disclosed. The county’s population on April 3 this year was recorded at 64,832, comprising 32,171 females and 32,661 males, an increase of 3,446 since 2016. The natural increase of births minus deaths was 2,093, with the remaining increase of 1,353 attributed to net inward migration. The total housing stock in Co Monaghan in April 2022 was 26,548. An incident room has been established at Monaghan Garda Station to investigate the ramming of a prison van in the Clontibret area of Co Monaghan on the evening of Wednesday July 15 last.
