INCREASING TREND IN INTOXICATED DRIVING IN CO MONAGHAN “ALARMING” SAY GARDAÍ

An increased trend in detections for drink and drug driving in Co Monaghan in 2022 was described as “alarming” by Garda Chief Superintendent Pat O’Connell at last week’s meeting of the Co Monaghan Joint Policing Committee. Presenting the latest Co Monaghan crime statistics to the meeting, Superintendent O’Connell said there had been a pattern in post-Covid times of an increase in crime figures. While all the figures were slightly up on those of last year, they were in line with more movement in society and the opening up of the economy.

Superintendent O’Connell said there was no evidence to suggest any burglary crime trend in the county. There had been only one robbery from a person in the year to date in 2022, the same as in 2021, and no robberies from establishments had been recorded in the period either this year or last…
