SERIOUS EMYVALE ACCIDENT HEIGHTENS CALLS FOR RESTORATION OF CLONTIBRET TO BORDER ROAD SCHEME
A serious road traffic accident in the village of Emyvale on Friday morning last in which a lorry crashed into a dwelling house and severely damaged the structure has prompted renewed calls for the restoration by the Government of funding to the major Clontibret to the Border road project on the N2 in Co Monaghan. The newly elected Cathaoirleach of Monaghan Co Council, Sinn Féin councillor Seán Conlon, said on Monday that he intended at the next Council meeting to call for correspondence to be sent to Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan TD and Cavan/Monaghan Government Minister Heather Humphreys TD urging that funding be provided to allow work on the project to continue in 2022.
The Co Council confirmed last week that the scheme was being suspended as it had not been included in the major road scheme project funding made available by the Government to Transport Infrastructure Ireland for this year.
