MONAGHAN UP FOR THE FIGHT

Monaghan 1-10 Kildare 0-12 JOHN GRAHAM A more resilient and resourceful Monaghan fought a magnificent rearguard action in the final 10 minutes – 5 minutes of normal time and the 5 minutes of stoppage time added – to hold out for the narrowest of victories in this absorbing encounter against Kildare in St Conleth’s Park, Newbridge on Sunday last. In that time Kildare laid siege to the Monaghan citadel in an effort to fashion either an equalising point or perhaps a match-winning goal, but the Monaghan defensive shield held firm with the result ...

SWIMMING POOL ADVOCATES DETERMINED TO MAKE A SPLASH IN CARRICKMACROSS!

By Veronica Corr There was a very productive public meeting about reforming the committee to bring a swimming pool to Carrickmacross last Wednesday night, January 24th, but the attendance was poor, even though the carpark in the Workhouse was full. It was noted that the swimming pool, or lack thereof, had been one of the most contentious issues in the town for decades, yet there was only a handful of people at the inaugural meeting. The next public meeting takes place Wednesday, February 7th at 8pm in the Workhouse and ...

PERMISSION REFUSED FOR TRUAGH WIND FARM

Michael Fisher An amended plan for a wind farm in the Errigal Truagh area of north Monaghan has been refused planning permission by Monaghan County Council because it did not include a suitable survey of hen harriers in the Sliabh Beagh area carried out during the breeding season. Nor did it specify details of the proposed connection to the electricity grid in Co. Monaghan. The development involved the erection of seven tall turbines in five townlands and road upgrade works on access routes in three other areas. The company behind ...
