PERMISSION REFUSED FOR TRUAGH WIND FARM

An amended plan for a wind farm in the Errigal Truagh area of north Monaghan has been refused planning permission by Monaghan County Council because it did not include a suitable survey of hen harriers in the Sliabh Beagh area carried out during the breeding season. Nor did it specify details of the proposed connection to the electricity grid in Co. Monaghan.
The development involved the erection of seven tall turbines in five townlands and road upgrade works on access routes in three other areas. The company behind the scheme, Coolberrin Wind Ltd c/o Galetech Energy Services of Stradone, Co. Cavan, submitted the plan just before Chrsitmas.
