Francis Evans from Stranooden Co Monaghan, won the 0-500,000 litres milk production category in the Lakeland Dairies Milk Quality Awards, presented recently by Cavan/Monaghan Fine Gael TD and Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation Heather Humphreys. Brendan Byrd from Kilnaleck, Co Cavan was runner-up in the category. A couple from Donadea in north Co Kildare were crowned the Supreme Milk Quality Award Winner – Andrew and Miriam Bennett emerged as the cream of the crop from among 2,500 milk producers supplying a total of 1.2 billion litres of milk…

Search continues for missing golden eagle Michael McDonnell The search was continuing yesterday evening for ‘Boru’, the two and- a-half-year-old golden eagle that went missing during a falconry display at the Castle Leslie Estate in Glaslough last Thursday (14th June). The bird’s owner, Brian McCann of Newgrange Falconry told the Northern Standard yesterday evening that he believed it most likely that Boru was still in the general hinterland of the Leslie estate, as there were lots of big trees that would provide him with ideal cover.
