Details of a €373 million programme of capital projects to be progressed by Monaghan Co Council in 2024 were outlined to Monday’s meeting of the local authority. SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN ROAD DEATHS IN 2023 REFLECTED IN COUNTY MONAGHAN
Seven road accident fatalities were recorded in Co Monaghan in 2023, the highest number for the past six years and reflective of a 19% increase in road deaths nationally in the year past. A total of 184 people died in 173 fatal collisions in 2023 compared to 155 deaths in 149 collisions in 2022. This represents an increase of 29 deaths compared to last year. ARRESTS MADE IN RELATION TO CLONES ROAD FATALITY
Gardaí last week arrested and questioned two men in relation to a fatal road traffic collision in Clones earlier in the year which claimed the lives of two teenage girls. The fatality occurred on the N54 at Legnakelly on July 31 and resulted in the deaths of 17-year-old Kiea McCann and 16-year-old Dlava Mohamed.
