MINISTER BRIEFED ON PLANS FOR 70 NEW
HOUSES FOR MONAGHAN TOWN
PETER HUGHES Plans for the construction of an additional 50+ social housing units and around 15 affordable purchase houses on the Latlorcan site in Monaghan Town were outlined by Monaghan Co Council to Minister for Housing Local Government and Heritage Darragh O’Brien TD on Thursday last. The Minister walked the site of the proposed development and was briefed on the construction plans during engagements in Co Monaghan which also saw him view works nearing completion on the new An Clós housing development in Ballybay, and officially open Castleblayney’s Coill Darach estate (see separate stories).
Minister O’Brien was officially welcomed by Monaghan Co Council Cathaoirleach David Maxwell, who recalled the prescience of the Council’s decision to acquire the unfinished Latlorcan development, consisting of eight hectares or 20 acres of land and 17 houses, in 2017, a decision which led to the construction of 43 social houses, completed in 2029 under the Rebuilding Ireland programme, and the sale of six serviced sites.
