A strong case was made at Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council for urgent measures to address the serious flooding problems that occur on the Ballybay-Cootehill or R190 road. Plans for a new research and development initiative based in Ballybay that could provide valuable start-up opportunities for small industry in the food sector were outlined at Monday’s meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District. John McEntegart, head of the Monaghan LEO or Local Enterprise Office, outlined proposals to establish a “food kitchen” research facility at the Ballybay Business Centre which would provide those with ideas for the generation of new food enterprises with the environment in which to develop their product. Work is set to start this week on the Threemilehouse flood alleviation scheme after members of Ballybay-Clones Muncipal District signed the contract at a meeting on Monday. The contract, which is worth €112,000, has been awarded to Rockcorry based contractor Samuel Wilkin.
