CO COUNCIL URGED TO MAKE RESOLUTION OF FLOODING PROBLEMS A PRIORITY

A strong case was made at Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council for urgent measures to address the serious flooding problems that occur on the Ballybay-Cootehill or R190 road.

Fianna Fáil councillor Seamus Coyle had a proposal adopted requesting the Council to seek an urgent meeting with the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Paschal Donohoe TD to have specific grant funding allocated for flood alleviation works to this particular stretch of the Dundalk-Cavan route “as this is a major link route across the region”.

Colr Coyle highlighted the great inconvenience and suffering inflicted on local residents, some of whom had been marooned for periods of up to ten days when serious flooding occurred. Local businesses such as hauliers and taxi services had also found themselves unable to operate, and some farmers were also unable to avail of milk or animals collections.
