An appeal has been made for wider volunteer involvement in the organisation of this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in Monaghan town. A meeting to establish a committee to oversee preparations for the big March 17th event will take place in the Market House in the town on Wednesday, February 6 next at 6 pm. Michael Fisher The committee set up in County Monaghan to oppose EirGrid’s plans for an overhead 400kV North/South electricity line through five counties, with 110 large pylons in this county situated across 41 townlands, has submitted its objections to An Bord Pleanála. The County Monaghan Anti-Pylon Committee is calling on the Board to refuse the application and instruct EirGrid to bring forward a sensible and cost effective underground alternative. Monaghan mother, who hailed from a family at Moyles, Castleshane, to become Archbishop of New York and also elected Cardinal. A prestigious Ulster History Circle blue plaque was erected last week at Dundalk Street in Newtownhamilton, to mark the birthplace of Cardinal John Murphy-Farley, who was Archbishop of New York from 1902 to 1918.
