BORD PLEANÁLA RECEIVES 1200 SUBMISSIONS ABOUT EIRGRID NORTH/SOUTH INTERCONNECTOR PLANS

The committee set up in County Monaghan to oppose EirGrid’s plans for an overhead 400kV North/South electricity line through five counties, with 110 large pylons in this county situated across 41 townlands, has submitted its objections to An Bord Pleanála.

The County Monaghan Anti-Pylon Committee is calling on the Board to refuse the application and instruct EirGrid to bring forward a sensible and cost effective underground alternative. EirGrid submitted a fresh application for planning permission to the Board in June and interested parties had until Monday to submit their observations. Nigel Hillis of the CMAPC said theirs was hand delivered and was one of 1200 submissions received by the deadline, including one from Monaghan County Council. 900 went in on the final day.

The Committee assisted 101 landowners in making their observations, representing 92% of the affected landowners in the county. There were 260 individual submissions from County Monaghan containing almost 600 signatures, Mr Hillis said.
