The county has been without a cinema for almost three years and Monaghan Omniplex, which is located in the Retail Park on the Clones Road, will open its doors to the public at 2pm on Friday. Long-established Monaghan Town business O’Hanrahan Travel is celebrating this week after scooping the Best Long Haul Agent and Best Agent of 2016 award for a second year running at the annual Travel Centres Awards.   The awards ceremony took place on Saturday November 12 last in the Mullingar Park Hotel.   The awards were judged by suppliers within the travel industry who shortlisted travel agents for the specific categories. It was really frisky of Brian McKenna to resurrect the cry, last heard a half century or so ago, for the removal from the facade of the Courthouse of the Lion & Unicorn (NS, 20 October). Brian is not of course alone in wishing to remove or destroy historical symbols and artefacts. And, as readers will know, he finds himself in illustrious company.
