Michael Fisher Covid has continued to spread in Co. Monaghan over Christmas and the New Year holiday period and as the schools are about to open again after the holidays. Latest available figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre issued in Christmas Eve are for the fourteen day period up until midnight on 23rd December. BUT POULTRY PRODUCERS URGED TO REMAIN VIGILANT Michael Fisher The Department of Agriculture says there have been no further outbreaks of the highly pathogenic avian influenza strain H5N1 in the Monaghan and Cavan area since 18th December. However, wild bird mortalities continue to be reported across eleven different counties. There remains a significant risk of further outbreaks in poultry and captive wild birds. Funding of over €732,000 to facilitate the further development of the Lough Egish Food Park in central Co Monaghan was announced by Cavan/Monaghan Fine Gael TD and Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys today, Thursday. Minister Humphreys expressed the hope that the funding – under the RRDF or Rural Regeneration Development Fund – would be a significant driver for job creation in the Lough Egish and wider area. The latest Anti-Litter League table published by the IBAL or Irish Businesses Against Litter organisation this week showed a significant improvement in ranking by Monaghan Town, which has risen to 12th place on the table and is ranked as “clean to European norms”.
