HISTORIC PIECE OF RAILWAY HERITAGE KINDLY DONATED TO GLASLOUGH VILLAGE
Saturday the 1st of February was a very poignant and special day for the Glaslough community as they received a very special gift. The gift was a beautifully restored vintage cast iron platform weighing scales, originally made by W & T Avery. The old railway scales were restored by the late Terence McCaul (Navan and Rockcorry, County Monaghan and it was Terence’s wish that the scales be gifted to the village of Glaslough. A celebratory atmosphere reigned at the Oakland Recreation Centre on Friday evening last when Monaghan Co Council accorded civic honour to the village of Glaslough on their national victory in the 2019 Tidy Towns contest. Peter Hughes It was confirmed at the October meeting of Monaghan Co Council that the local authority will hold a civic reception to mark Glaslough’s national Tidy Towns victory at the Oakland Recreation Centre on Friday, November 1 next. Jubilation, celebration and congratulation were general throughout Co Monaghan this week following the announcement on Monday that the North Monaghan village of Glaslough had been chosen as the overall winner of the national Tidy Towns competition for 2019. Glaslough was adjudged the best of a record 918 entries for this year’s SuperValu-sponsored competition and also received the award for Ireland’s Tidiest Village for the second year in a row. Peter Hughes The acquisition by Henderson Foodservice of Glaslough firm BD Foods has been described by the North Monaghan enterprise as “an excellent move” that will help the company to progress. BD Foods (Barbarrie Duckling Limited) was established by the Bowe family in 1993. Monday April 30 2018 was a memorable day for the Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board’s second group of trainees who successfully completed what was formerly called the British Horse Society Assistant Instructor Course at Castle Leslie Equestrian Centre, Glaslough.
