FF COUNCILLORS ADVANCE SIX-POINT PLAN TO ALLEVIATE FODDER CRISIS
A meal voucher scheme, the suspension of on-farm inspections and assistance measures from financial institutions were all elements of a six-point plan to assist farmers through the current fodder crisis put forward by the Fianna Fáil members of Monaghan Co Council on Monday. The proposals were part of a notice of urgent business submitted by the FF Council grouping and unanimously adopted following debate at the conclusion of the local authority’s monthly meeting. The motion read: “That Monaghan Co Council totally condemns the chaotic inaction of the Minister for Agriculture, ...
PUNISH DUMPING FROM CARS WITH PENALTY POINTS URGES CARRICK COUNCILLOR
Imposing penalty points on motorists from whose vehicles litter was strewn onto public roadways was advocated as a strong deterrent measure by Fianna Fáil councillor Pádraig McNally when Monaghan Co Council met on Monday. The persistence of illegal dumping and the wanton discarding of packaging and other materials despite education campaigns and enhanced enforcement measures being introduced by the local authority in recent years amazed some councillors and angered others, principally Sinn Féin’s Brian McKenna who was unsparing in his condemnation of litter louts when initially raising the issue on ...

The fate of what was once Monaghan General Hospital and now merely Monaghan Hospital was a pressing public preoccupation in our circulation area for decades. From the time of then Health Minister Barry Desmond’s notorious “close and dispose” ...

John Graham reports History will be made this Saturday (2pm) at Drumragh GFC (near Omagh) when Monaghan and Donegal lock horns in the 2018 Ulster U17 football decider. The counties will compete for the inaugural Jim McGuigan Cup and given the fact that Monaghan were impressive in their victory over Tyrone in last Saturday’s semi final, they will arguably go into this weekend’s final as favourites, especially given that Armagh put Donegal to a searching test. Indeed, but for some wayward…
