A man who was seriously injured on Saturday evening in a road accident on the N2 Monaghan to Dublin road at Aclint on the Louth/Monaghan border north of Ardee has died in hospital in Dublin. The man was the sole occupant of a car, which was involved in a collision with a van. He was airlifted to Beaumont Hospital with serious injuries. He was pronounced dead on Sunday. A traditional embarkation point for North Monaghan people departing for foreign shores during the eras of mass Irish emigration has been enshrined in a community heritage initiative. Monaghan Co Councillor Hugh McElvaney is to appear before a public hearing of the Standards in Public Office (or SIPO) Commission in September.
