At an IFA Monaghan Executive meeting held in Emyvale on Wednesday evening special emphasis was placed on the ongoing cross border criminal activities and the spate of recent cattle thefts which have had devastating effects on members of the local communities. By PATSY McARDLE AROUND 2,000 candidates are to contest the Local Elections on Friday 24th May, it emerged at the weekend, after the deadline for nominations closed. The candidates had however until Tuesday last to withdraw their nomination papers. There are 949 seats up for grabs on the 31 local authorities around the country, including those in Co. AUGHEY WELCOMES NEW PLAYPARK FUNDING FOR HOLLYWOOD LAKE
Cllr Raymond Aughey has called for new funding for a playpark at Hollywood Lake. “Hollywood Lake and its surrounds have long been a safe and welcoming attraction for all in County Monaghan and any opportunity to enhance the amenities are most welcome. I am calling for funding for a new playpark that will be available for locals and visitors alike!”
CYCLE PATH OPENED IN MULLADUFF
A family fun day was held by Mulladuff Residents’ Association in Smithborough on Monday to celebrate the completion of a cycle path along the greenway area. Monaghan Integrated Development which managed the scheme granted €20,000 from the Outdoor Recreation Scheme and Ballybay Clones Municipal District provided €13,000, making the total cost of the project €33,000.
