CO MONAGHAN CANDIDATES DECLARE NOMINATIONS

AROUND 2,000 candidates are to contest the Local Elections on Friday 24th May, it emerged at the weekend, after the deadline for nominations closed. The candidates had however until Tuesday last to withdraw their nomination papers. There are 949 seats up for grabs on the 31 local authorities around the country, including those in Co. Monaghan, and the contest will take place across 166 local electoral areas.

Local Election candidates declared earlier this week in Co. Monaghan were: MONAGHAN COUNTY COUNCIL Ballybay-Clones Local Electoral Area: Seamus Coyle (Fianna Fáil); Sean Gilliland (Fine Gael); Hughie McElvaney (Ind); Rosie Smyth-O’Harte (Sinn Féin); Pat Treanor (Sinn Féin); and Richard Truell (Fine Gael); Carrickmacross-Castleblayney Local Electoral Area: Aidan Campbell (Fine Gael); Colm Carthy (Sinn Féin); Patrick Cassidy (Fine Gael); Conan Connolly (Green Party); Jackie Crowe (Sinn Fein); James Duffy (Aontú); Noel Keelan (Sinn Féin); Mary Kerr-Conlon (Fine Gael); Aoife McCooey (Fianna Fáil); Rory Owen McEvoy (Fianna Fáil); and P.J.
