• Arva branch also included in restructuring plans Ulster Bank announced on Thursday last that it plans to close its branches in Carrickmacross and Cootehill by the end of September. The Ulster Bank in Arva, Co Cavan is also one of 22 branches listed for closure in a major restructuring of business that is expected to result in 220 redundancies. Michael Fisher St Salvator’s Church on the edge of Glaslough village became the centre of international interest for several days in 2002. Sarah Walsh, daughter of Patricia, neé Connolly from Clones and Tom, who is originally from Waterford, is a 17-year-old T/F44 athlete below knee amputee who competes in 100m and long jump. A strong case was made at Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council for urgent measures to address the serious flooding problems that occur on the Ballybay-Cootehill or R190 road. Last week Ian Harman, with an address at Carrickallen, Mountain Lodge, Cootehill was sentenced to eight years imprisonment at the Central Criminal Court. The fifty year old defendant pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Michael Treanor at Cavan General Hospital on June 27th, 2011. The court heard that the defendant used a belt and pillow to kill Mr. Treanor, aged 82, who suffered from dementia. Mr. Harman had been voluntarily admitted to the hospital’s Psychiatric Unit after he attempted suicide.
