DEFENDANT SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS FOR MANSLAUGHTER OF

Last week Ian Harman, with an address at Carrickallen, Mountain Lodge, Cootehill was sentenced to eight years imprisonment at the Central Criminal Court.

The fifty year old defendant pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Michael Treanor at Cavan General Hospital on June 27th, 2011.

The court heard that the defendant used a belt and pillow to kill Mr. Treanor, aged 82, who suffered from dementia.

Mr. Harman had been voluntarily admitted to the hospital’s Psychiatric Unit after he attempted suicide.
