Well-known Ballybay lady Kathleen O’Daly celebrated her 100th birthday on Tuesday. She is pictured with some of the staff of St Joseph’s Nursing Home in Ballybay being presented with the letter and cheque from President Michael D Higgins that is the honour bestowed on all Irish centenarians. • Michael McDonnell THE NORTHERN STANDARD received confirmation from the HSE yesterday afternoon that Ballybay Community Crèche was closed earlier in the day after a “number of linked cases of VTEC infection” — a form of what is commonly termed E. coli had been detected at the facility.
