CCTV surveillance is to be employed along the recently opened first section of the Monaghan greenway development for walkers and cyclists in order to pursue prosecutions against those responsible for littering and dog fouling along its expanse. This plan was agreed at Monday night’s meeting of Monaghan Town Council. The Town Engineer (Dermot Deeney) told the members that mobile CCTV cameras could be deployed in the area to counter these problems. MONAGHAN MUSHROOMS CREATES 20 NEW JOBS FOR GRADUATES
Monaghan Mushrooms, Europe’s largest producer of mushrooms and one of the world’s largest producers of mushrooms, has created 20 new jobs for graduates. Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mr. Richard Bruton T.D. recently welcomed the launch of the company’s Graduate Programme 2014 in Dublin, in association with the Irish Management Institute and supported by Enterprise Ireland. The IABA have named County Monaghan boxer Gary McKenna in an 11-strong squad for a week-long Elite training camp in England. Three-time AIBA World Elite, Youth and Junior medalist Joe Ward has also been named in the side, along with London 2012 Olympians Adam Nolan, Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlon. Conditions were dry but cold on Sunday last as a large number of athletes from clubs around the county and further afield gathered in Glaslough for the second running of the 5k promoted by the County Athletic Board.
