The Northern Standard/ R&S Printers Monaghan GAA Awards

The Hillgrove Hotel has hosted many Gala occasions for the GAA in Monaghan over the years and last Saturday night was another such occasion when those who excelled at club level both on and off the field last year were recognised and their efforts rewarded in the Northern Standard/R&S Printers sponsored Monghan GAA Annual Awards.

The Footballer of the year awards in senior, intermediate and junior all followed the championship winners where Scotstown, Truagh and Emyvale players were all recognised.

Top of the agenda as always was the induction of two further members into the Monaghan GAA Hall of Fame with Sean McCague recognised for his services and achievements over a lifetime of involvement.

There are awards too for handball, ladies football, club achievement awards in underage football and hurling and the recognition of club officials and their unselfish work to promote gaelic games, the top one being the senior club official of the year which went to Killeevan chairman Darren Greenan.

Guest speaker on the night, Irish Times columnist and unashamed Monaghan man Frank McNally entertained and there was also a contribution from the Drumhowan All Ireland Scor na nOg winning Instrumental Music group with a wry reflection on an unnamed Monaghan hurler by Clones man Colm Kirk, with both receiving mementoes of their All Ireland Scor na nOg success.
